Yoel vs. Luke

The main event of UFC 221 finally arrived, leaving behind problems and controversy. Luke Rockhold was trying to get his hands on the interim belt, the only thing standing in his way was Yoel Romero. The Cuban wrestler had no chance of claiming the belt because he failed to make weight, but still wanted to walk out with the victory.

Rockhold opened the fight with low kicks but Romero absorbed some and checked others. Yoel tried to respond with a huge left but Rockhold got out of the way. Luke kept on kicking and began to make Romero uncomfortable, but he managed to kick Rockhold back. They went back to the fight on the feet but Luke finished the first round slightly ahead.

Rockhold’s shin started to bleed because of Yoel’s checks. He then decided to charge and punched Luke a few times, forcing him to get against the cage. Rockhold was in trouble but managed to get out of the way of the haymakers. Luke’s face was bleeding by then but he managed to regain his composure and control the center of the octagon and land a few punches of his own.

By the third, Rockhold tried to establish the distance using his jab and following them up with leg kicks. Once again, Romero started to push the pace and change the momentum of the fight. Rockhold was moving backwards again and he got close to the cage, Romero landed a brutal left hand. Down goes Luke Rockhold, but he’s not ready to quit. As Rockhold tried to get back to his feet he found himself on the wrong side of a brutal left hand. Yoel wasn’t going to let his chance go by, that second left hand sent Rockhold to Neverland.
