Video: Watch Floyd Mayweather beat Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather beats McGregor

In what came as no surprise to many, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor in ‘The Money Fight’ at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. What did come as a surprise for some was that McGregor made it all the way to round 10.

As it was expected by those who have seen both men fight, Conor McGregor came out strong since round 1, trying to put the pressure on Mayweather. Floyd began as slow as usual and basically let the Irish take the first round. The following 2 rounds were close, McGregor looked a bit awkward in the ring and kept landing the occasional hammerfist to the back of Floyd’s head, but managed to keep the fight competitive.

From round 5 Floyd began to be more aggressive and started to land more punches, particularly the right hand as McGregor’s guard became lower as time went by.

By the 7th Mayweather was right in his comfort zone, while McGregor struggled to keep the pace and started to become fatigued. Floyd kept pushing the pace as Conor was trying to move away.

By the beginning of the 9th Conor knew he was in trouble and had to find his way back into the fight. A questionable blow which Floyd claimed was low, punches to the back of the head and a cheap shot before the referee re-started the action were signs of desperation for McGregor. Nevertheless, he had already made it past what most boxing experts expected him to do, while keeping the fight interesting.

After taking some damage in the 9th, in the beginning of the 10th it was clear McGregor was exhausted and was going to struggle to survive Floyd’s pressure. Maybe Floyd’s power wasn’t going to be an issue, but definitely the volume and Conor’s fatigue would be.
